3D Tracking of Building Processes in Macrotermes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mound-building termites of the genus Macrotermes actively reshape their physical environment in ways that benefit their colony. Previous studies of Macrotermes have focused on the response of termites to stimuli such as water and pheromones. Observations typically quantify relative preferences between stimuli or the bulk movement of building material. However, for fuller insight into the construction process, we seek a greater understanding of how individual termites react to partially built structures including their detailed geometric form. Here we present tools we have developed to produce detailed height maps of soil terrain in experimental petri dishes, including ongoing work toward continuous scanning for dynamic height maps while termites actively rearrange soil. These tools inform our ongoing study of how termites build complex large-scale structures through local interactions with their environment.

3D and 4D Seismic Data Integration in Static and Dynamic Reservoir Modeling: A Review
Reservoir modeling is the process of generating numerical representations of reservoir conditions and properties on the basis of geological, geophysical, and engineering data measured on the Earth’s surface or in depth at a limited number of borehole locations. Therefore, reservoir modeling requires an incorporation of the data from a variety of sources, along with an integration of knowledge a...
متن کاملField Measurements and 3D Numerical Modeling of Hydrodynamics in Chabahar Bay, Iran
As the first phase of a series of monitoring and modeling studies of Iranian coastal areas, Chabahar Bay, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Oman, was under a comprehensive monitoring and modeling study in 2006-2007. The study included an extensive one-year field measurements program to help understanding the ongoing processes in the bay and provide inputs or boundary conditions and vali...

The Architectural/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry is slowly shifting toward performance-driven project and project delivery. Assuring good performance requires efficient performance control processes. Among the different construction performance control processes, many critical ones, including progress tracking, productivity tracking and dimensional quality control, rely on efficient th...

The limitation of land in big cities has caused the vertical growth of cities; for example, high-rise buildings on the ground and underground urban facilities can be mentioned. This restriction has increased the value of land in cities, and on the other hand, it has created some new and complicated technical and legal aspects in the cadastral issues. To respond to these new technical and legal ...
متن کاملA phylogenetic community approach for studying termite communities in a West African savannah.
Termites play fundamental roles in tropical ecosystems, and mound-building species in particular are crucial in enhancing species diversity, from plants to mammals. However, it is still unclear which factors govern the occurrence and assembly of termite communities. A phylogenetic community approach and null models of species assembly were used to examine structuring processes associated with t...
